DESCRIPTION
Originally designed in 1905 for the wood bending
company Kohn, this piece was exhibited at the Kunstchau art show in 1908.
Here this is an early Viennese example of the bentwood technology developed
a few years earlier by Thonet.
CONSTRUCTION
This chair is surprisingly comfortable for a straight
backed piece. It is made out of an ebonized beech bentwood frame. To create
the spring in the seat, it has a traditional web of woven rubber. Then
the seat and back are covered with a dense foam, and then a layer of dacron
before the upholstery is put on. The upholstery is |

made
up of individual, sewn together pieces of fabric or leather. The edges
are piped where the upholstery meets the frame. There are a few decorative
details, buttons at the back of the seat and metal buttons at the base
of the seat.
CONDITION
Here, we managed to get pieces upholstered in three
different fabrics. Except for a slight dirt spot on the back of one of
the sand chairs (yes, you can have $75 off), they are all in great shape. |
